BankOnArt Gallery opens November 15 with launch of In Safe Keeping, an Inaugural Exhibition of Contemporary Art Reimagining Preservation in a Historic Bank Building
Featuring Indiana Artists Fredricka Joyner, Robert Leavitt, and Cathy Williams
Opening Saturday, November 15, 2025 | Bank On Art Gallery | Brazil, Indiana (60 miles west of Indianapolis)
Brazil, IN — BankOnArt Gallery, housed in the restored historic Brazil Trust Co. building, opens its doors this fall with a striking inaugural exhibition: In Safe Keeping. Featuring contemporary works by Indiana artists Fredricka Joyner, Robert Leavitt, and Cathy Williams, the exhibition asks a timely question: What do we choose to protect, preserve, and hold on to?

Once a place of safekeeping and exchange, the former bank now becomes a site that invites reflection, memory, and new ways of valuing what we hold dear. The notion of preservation also extends to the gallery itself. In Safe Keeping attests to the value of the brick-and-mortar art gallery as a space where artists still find representation, and where art lovers encounter works in their authentic form. The traditional gallery offers the irreplaceable experience of seeing art in person, where the aura, scale, and material presence of each work can be fully appreciated.
In Safe Keeping brings together expressionist and abstract painting, materially driven mixed media collage art, and mixed media painting to explore the emotional, aesthetic, and ecological dimensions of safekeeping. Its intent is to encourage visitors to consider what matters most in a world of accelerating change. “In Safe Keeping reframes preservation not as a passive act of stasis, but as a dynamic, creative responsibility,” says gallery founder and curator Dr. Gabriele Dillmann. “What’s held in trust here is not capital, but culture, care, and collective memory.”
The exhibition features:
Indianapolis artist Cathy Williams' visceral paintings blend abstraction and figuration to evoke memory, emotion, and spiritual presence offering raw, layered portraits of what it means to feel alive.
West Lafayette artist Robert Leavitt’s abstract works explore the dynamics of light, line, and color in the poetics of space pursuing balance through careful composition, while allowing tension and contrast to introduce complexity and depth.
Indianapolis artist Fredricka Joyner’s layered mixed media compositions draw on cartography, photographs, and reclaimed materials to explore systems in crises and the possibility of hope as a conduit for rebuilding what’s been broken.
Together, these artists illuminate preservation as an act of deep engagement, one that honors fragility, invites complexity, and dares to imagine hope.
The historic town of Brazil, IN is an hour west from Downtown Indianapolis and the gallery offers ample free parking day and evening.
