Artist Statement

 

I create contemporary figurative paintings and mixed media works that reinterpret the visual language of historical portraiture. Moving between figuration and abstraction, my practice draws on the structure and authority of Old Master painting while shifting attention toward the lived moments those images have often left unrecorded.

I combine photography, drawing, oil paint, and cold wax to build textured surfaces where image and gesture interrupt and reframe one another. Across my mixed media works and oil paintings, I am drawn to moments of incongruity and subtle disruptions of social order, where lived reality unsettles an idealized image, and figures resist the roles assigned to them.

My work has been exhibited internationally, including in London, Greece, and the United States, and has been featured in publications including V&A Magazine, Tate Etc., and Sotheby’s.
